Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will leave Tehran for Turkey on Thursday to make his first visit to the country since he took office in August 2005, the official IRNA news agency reported Tuesday.
Ahmadinejad leading a high-ranking delegation will meet Turkish President Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on issues of mutual interest and the latest regional and international developments.
Iran's nuclear program will also be on the agenda of talks with the Turkish officials, IRNA said.
An Iranian politico-economic delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Alireza Sheikh-Attar is currently in Turkey in the run-up to president Ahmadinejad's upcoming visit.
The two neighboring countries have boosted economic, trade, energy and security ties in recent years and the energy ministers of the two sides recently signed a preliminary agreement on transferring Iranian natural gas through Turkish territory and allowing Turkish companies to develop three Iranian natural gas fields in southern Iran.
A couple of documents focusing on economic relations would be signed during the presidential visit.
