The prime ministers of India and Pakistan are to meet in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on the sidelines of the South Asian regional summit, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told reporters in Colombo on Thursday.
Qureshi said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani would meet on Saturday in a bid to improve relations between the two South Asian neighbors.
Qureshi said his meeting with his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee Thursday had led to the meeting between the two leaders.
"I am happy to report that our meeting was comprehensive and cordial. We discussed all our issues in a very friendly and candidly way," Qureshi said.
The 15th SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) heads of state or government meeting is to take place on Saturday and Sunday in Colombo amidst tight security.
India and Pakistan have fought three wars since 1947 when both nations gained independence from British colonial rulers.
