1. We and 2008 Olympics

The 29th Olympic Games is a heated topic that draws much concern among the Chinese and even the people the world over. All the people on Earth treasure the Games as it is the greatest sports meet in the world. It is especially exciting to every Chinese, for Beijing has got the right to host 29th Olympic Games.
It is true that we are far from the Olympics and we can’t take direct part in the events, like being an athlete or a volunteer. However, the Olympics is actually just around us. Every Chinese is a member of the 2008 Olympic Games.
First, it is no doubt that many foreigners will come over at that time, not only to Beijing, but also to other places, including our city. Our and our city’s images represent our country. So it is very important for us to behave ourselves better and set up a good image for our country.
Second, the spirit of Olympic Games, “marching forward and never giving up, surpassing ourselves and being not afraid of any difficulties” always encourages us. If we develop the spirit of the Olympics, we will succeed finally just like the athletes.
Third, when the athletes are competing with others, we should support them as they are all heroes reflecting our enthusiasm to sports.
“One world, one dream!” It is not only the goal of the Olympics, but our dream as well. With warmth and enthusiasm to peace, we will make our world much better. Let’s get ourselves ready for the 29th Olympic Games and say to the world: Welcome to China!

2. We and the Global Warming
Attention! Our earth has been facing a serious threat—global warming. According to a survey, thousands of people die of hot wave every summer, and the icebergs in the poles have been melting at a shocking speed, which leads to the rise of the sea level. Under such circumstances, many countries and regions are threatened to be submerged. In addition, natural disasters are more or less connected with the global warming, and all of these are the punishments from nature.
To look back, in the past 200 years, we have done so many environmentally unfriendly things to develop the economy, like over-exploiting the oil resources and using private cars instead of public transportations. All of these contribute to the rising release of carbon dioxide, which mainly causes the global warming.
Fortunately, though the problem is becoming more and more serious, both famous and common people are working together to combat global warming. We must also spare no effort to slow down global warming for the sake of our future.

3. Characteristics of our University
Referring to the characteristics of our university, I will talk about all kinds of statues with different meanings on campus.
The most remarkable statue is the insignia in front of our library. It takes on different looks from the different angles. In my imagination, it looks like two bright red wings of a bird. Actually, it presents the English letters ‘T’, ‘U’ and ‘F’. ‘T’ and ‘U’ are short for ‘Taizhou University’ and ‘F’ for ‘fly’. The red color gives us a sense of passion, with the implication that we will never lose our enthusiasm on the way to our destinations. Standing and shining on campus, the statue encourages us to set up great ambitions and work hard to broaden our horizons, enlarge our knowledge and strengthen our bodies to achieve our goals.
The second statue which shows the characteristics of our university is the sprouts growing in the Greenland. It indicates we college students are growing healthily in Taizhou University, a most beautiful and passionate place, with teachers’ instructions which are like the sunshine, rain and breeze in Mother Nature.
Standing in the center of the grand library, the statue of Luxun, one of the most famous Chinese writers and revolutionists, is contemplating and pursuing the way to the new society. It encourages us to learn more knowledge critically and serve people heart and soul.
Though the statues are just a small part of our university, they show their characteristics and serve a common goal—to encourage us students in Taizhou University into becoming intellectual, professional and even international talents.

                     4. How to Make Our College Better

Taizhou University is a local university in Zhejiang Province. As a student of this university, I want to give our school the following suggestions in order to make it better.
First, the teachers should work hard to improve their professional level and teaching quality. In teaching, they should pay more attention to fostering students’ moral sense while passing on knowledge to us students.
Second, the collections of books in our library should be increased. It should be a big information provider and an ocean of knowledge for us to explore.
Third, a variety of courses aimed at developing our professional skills should be opened up. Meanwhile, our university should create more opportunities for us students to take part in various social practices so as to enrich our practical experience and make good preparation for our future.
Fourth, our university should establish a good and strong relationship with some enterprises where we can get a temporary job during the summer and winter vacations.
The last suggestion is that our university should be accessible to the students all over the world. For one thing, it can promote cultural exchange. For another, many excellent management modes can be introduced into our university.
In a word, all the students, the staff and the faculty should make their efforts to develop our university. I believe it will have a much brighter future.

                                 5. The Teacher I Like Best

I have been studying for more than twelve years, meeting a variety of teachers. As a student, there is no doubt that teachers often mean so much to me. They not only pass on knowledge to us, but also help us to acquire abilities, skills and develop our mind.
I am thankful to those teachers who once taught me. Although years have obscured many names of my teachers, but not the name of my Chinese teacher –Wang Xiaofu, who was in charge of my class when I was in high school.
In my eyes, she is an extraordinary woman with ordinary appearance. No one thinks she is beautiful but they all agree that she is lovely, confident and eloquent. She enjoys talking and communicating with others. Anyone who has once talked with her is surely attracted by her and has a deep impression of her sharp mind.
In addition, her outstanding teaching style. also has left a deep impression on me. As we know, the three years in high school is the toughest period to us students. However, Mrs. Wang tried her best to relieve our stress and pressure. She tried to make us understand that learning means more than immerse ourselves into books. She always encouraged us and after school, she even joined us to play games and do some sports such as running and playing basketball. Though life then was stressful, we experienced sweetness and pleasure of life with my teacher.
After class, she is more a friend than a teacher to us all. She treated us as her children and took good care of us. I still remember what she did for me after an important exam. I didn’t do well in the exam and was in low spirit. What’s worse, my friends didn’t talk to me because of my bad temper. I felt so frustrated and confused about what to do next. Mrs Wang realized it and called me out of the classroom. To my surprise, she invited me to have a dinner with her instead of criticizing me and told me a pile of reasons. At the table she just talked with me happily as if nothing had happened. I understood her intention. She was telling me in a special way: “Don’t let your frustration last long. Keep calm. All difficulties will be a past thing.” I was so moved.
That is the teacher I like most. I think I will remember her for ever.

                             6. On Playing Truant
Nowadays, increasing numbers of college students are playing truant, which has become the focus and concern of both teachers and students. There are many reasons to account for their absences from classes.
Undoubtedly, the students who play truant are the first to blame for it. Some of them cut their classes because they show no interest in studying. They indulge themselves in surfing the internet or playing computer games. Or they just sleep in the dormitory owing to low temperature outside in winter. Others value making money and gaining working experience more than getting educated. They even devote much of their class time to part-time jobs. Of course, teachers’ dull lectures are another reason for students’ failure to attend classes.
Repeated absences will do great harm to students themselves, which will affect their ability to finish their courses. It is likely that they will be expelled out of school if they make a habit of skipping classes.
It is time to take some efficient measures. Attendance records should be regularly kept and submitted to school committee if requested so as to maximize their learning opportunity and professional development. To the students, awareness of self-discipline should be raised. To the teachers, their lectures need to be made more interesting, lively and attractive. Anyway, to stop playing truant needs joint efforts from students and teachers.
7. Is CET-4 Necessary

Recently there has been a heated discussion about whether the nationwide CET-4 is necessary or not. Some teachers, students and authorities are in favor of it. They hold the opinion that it is an effective way to improve our English. Besides, they believe that CET-4 can stimulate teachers to make their teaching better and urge students to attach more importance to English.
However, others hold an opposite point of view. They maintain that this kind of test doesn’t actually help to improve students’ language skills and communicative abilities. Instead, it makes students lay more emphasis on test skills rather than on language itself. It only makes learning and teaching test-oriented. As a result, CET-4 only turns out students with high marks but low abilities.
Despite all its negative aspects, I think CET-4 is necessary. Thanks to CET-4, the overall English level of college students has considerably gone up. Besides, students now learn to emphasize their comprehensive language skills. I believe CET-4 will continue to spur students to push their English to a higher level so as to be more competitive in the new century.

8. CET-4,CET-6 and our Future Work

As more and more students are conscious of the positive role that the certificates of CET-4 and CET-6 play in seeking jobs, it has become a common phenomenon for college students to take these two exams.
As to me, my personal opinions of attending these exams are as follows. First of all, our English learning depends mainly on ourselves rather than by teachers. Self-control fosters a good study habit. Taking these exams offers a good chance to examine our English study. Secondly, during the process of getting a CET-4 or CET-6 certificate, we can learn lots of English knowledge, which is vital to our future career. What’s more, confidence, persistence, courage and patience gained in the process of learning will have a far-reaching effect on our future life. Last but not least, as CET-4 and CET-6 are the most authoritative English examinations offered to college students and the certificates of them are widely recognized by society, they become the first step for us to get the job we have been dreaming of.
I firmly believe CET-4 and CET-6 will help us have an ideal job under our belt. The knowledge and experience obtained can be helpful for us to reap harvest in college study.

9. Is Learning English Necessary

With the development of our society, English is getting more and more important in our daily life. Learning English is becoming a necessity.
First of all, English is a tool for communication. As we all know, English is the most widely-used language in the world. With English we can communicate and make friends with foreigners. Besides, it is easier for us to chat on the Internet with people all over the world if we have a good command of English.
What is more, English is also a tool for work. With the opening and developing of our country, international business is increasing every year. If we equip ourselves with a good knowledge of English, we’ll have more opportunities to find a better job and contribute to the company we will work for.
All in all, it is necessary for us to know the importance of English learning. We should regard learning English as a lifelong education to improve ourselves all the time.

10. My Interest

It is said that reading makes people smart, so I choose it as my interest. Especially in the library, where it is quiet and full of learning atmosphere, reading appeals to me very much.
As Bacon put it, knowledge is power. Through reading, I can learn a lot about different cultures. Reading makes me understand life better and also makes my life more colorful.
I like reading different kinds of books. Poetry enriches my sentiment; essays further my opinion; novels bring me into other people’s world. From Shakespeare’s sonnets, I learn to appreciate the true love of human being; from Luxun’s essays, I feel the responsibility we should take for our country; from Jane Austin’s novels, I witness the most impressive love between heroes and heroines.
Descartes said that reading good books is having conversations with the finest men of past centuries. As the time flows away just like water, four years at university is really not long to me. I should make good use of the time and the library. Books have been keeping company with me for many years, and they will also be a part of my life in the future. I see books as my friends, my lifelong friends.

                       11. My Extracurricular Activities

To keep pace with the high speed of life, we need a well-balanced one, especially for us college students. Traveling, sporting and parties—all help to pass time, but in my spare time, I often immerse myself in the clubs and societies in our university.
In drama club, I enjoy the classical plays of Shakespeare’s and in the poetry society, I write and recite beautiful poems. By joining in the clubs and societies, I am able to pursue my existing interests and develop new ones at the same time. Societies offer me a great chance to meet people from outside college, which brings me a lot of joy. Clubs and societies act as not only a window to see farther and more attractive scenery, but also a big stage to display myself freely. Under the great stress of my study and work, this type of leisure activities really helps to adjust myself and relieve my stress. I feel energetic and ready for any challenge ahead after the wonderful activities.
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in my college life. I learn to be creative and cooperative. It really brings me valuable experience, which I will surely treasure in the rest of my life.

12. To Spend More Time on Study or on College Activities

Recently, there is a heated debate on campus about whether we should spend more time on study or on college activities. Attitudes vary from person to person.
Some are in favor of the idea that we should spend more time on study. The reasons can be listed as follows: firstly, they think they are still students, so studying is their No.1 priority. Secondly, spending more time on study can help them grasp knowledge better. Thus they have a competitive edge over others in finding a good job in the future. Thirdly, they think they can plan time reasonably, so in different periods of time, they can do different things. For example, in the early morning, they can read a poem on campus.
However, others hold opposite views. First of all, they think college activities play a positive role in improving students’ studies. After heavy schedules of study, the various activities enable them to relax and enrich their mind, which in turn will improve their academic records. Second, they believe activities contribute greatly to developing their abilities, such as organization ability and communicative skills. In addition, the activities also provide students living in the ivory tower with more chances to keep in contact with the society. In those activities, the participants have a chance to get to know the outside world. All these offer an important means for students to broaden their horizons.
As far as I am concerned, I suggest we should keep the balance between study and activities, because both knowledge and abilities are the key to our success.

13. To Help the Impoverished College Students

With the development of society, more and more impoverished students can study in colleges.
Although they enter the universities, their life will be still more difficult than others’. So in order to solve their problems and help them to finish their study, our government has taken a lot of measures. First, the impoverished students have the privilege to loan money from the bank with low interest. Second, our government has set up some agencies which can give hands to them. Moreover, it encourages the society to offer more chances to the impoverished students. For example, our university offers a lot of part-time jobs for the impoverished students to help them selves and pays high salaries to them.
Apart from the government’s help, everyone around them should also take care of them. We should do whatever we can to help them. But first of all, we must realize that we are equal no matter whether poor or rich we are. In addition, we can make friends with them, support what they are doing and help them in every situation they are in.
To themselves, in my opinion, the most important is that they must be optimistic about the life they have. Also they should be more confident and study harder to win the scholarship to make their life better.
If every part of the society works together to help the impoverished college students and give them the chance to continue their college education, the world will be much better to them and to us all.
14. Canteen Service on Campus

As we all know, canteen service is directly connected with students in a university. Eating is also a cultural phenomenon, especially to a college canteen, for it is a mirror of university’s quality and cultural varieties.
On our campus, I often hear some students talk about the canteen service with each other. Most of them think the canteen service of our campus is fine. There are many kinds of food for us to choose from and all the attendants are very warm-hearted. However, there are some students complaining about the poor food quality and service. According to their opinions, the canteen sanitation isn't satisfactory. For example, the floor and tables aren’t clean enough. Some food gets cold when we buy it, which is bad to our health. What’s more, most of the food is of southern flavor. Some students from the North aren’t accustomed to eating the food offered.
In my opinion, the canteen manager should be aware of these conditions. To improve the canteen’s sanitary conditions should be his first consideration. And he should also take measures to make food more delicious and various to satisfy the needs of the students from different parts of China. If these measures can be taken, the canteen’s service in our university will be more satisfying and it will greatly improve the students’ life and contribute to their study as well.
15. About College Tuition

College tuition is much higher than it used to be and has become the focus of people’s attention, which causes much controversy.
Some argue that college tuition is too high for an average family to send their children to college. It adds to the heavy burden of the parents who live on their wages. Furthermore, it may become an obstacle to the development of China’s higher education because it hinders some talented but impoverished students from entering the university. So these people are in favor of free education.
On the contrary, others advocate that college tuition is necessary. It is true that some serious problems concerning tuition still exist. But as a developing country, China is not wealthy enough to commit sufficient funds to teaching facilities and teachers’ salaries. To relieve the financial burden of our country, we students should pay tuition. The money can be used to improve the teaching equipment, and the improved teaching equipment will in turn provide a good aid for teaching, and make students learn better.
Fortunately, many colleges and universities have taken some measures to help the poor students. For example, scholarships, grants and donations have been offered to them. I’m sure that all of them can enjoy higher education without worrying about where to get money.

16. Living Conditions on Campus

One year ago, we left home, stepping into the university, and into a new world. The living conditions on campus are totally different from those at home. Many of us are complaining about the poor living conditions. Neither the food nor the dormitory is satisfactory. But actually, things are not so bad.
To begin with, the cafeterias and restaurants on campus provide various kinds of food. Most of us can find our favorite food, no matter where we come from. Maybe someone will complain about the sanitation, but in my opinion, its overall conditions are quite acceptable.
Second, the facilities of our dormitory are fairly good. There is one living room with a TV set and one bathroom in our dormitory. Five classmates and I make up a big family. We live together; we clean up together; we share happiness and sadness with each other. We build up a happy, warm family.
In a word, be grateful, be tolerant, and you will find that the living conditions on our campus are not so bad; the life on it is beautiful.

17. How to Handle the Relationship between Roommates

When I become a college student, I have to face challenges that never happened in the high school, like having to live on my own, and sharing a dormitory with three other classmates from different parts of China. We all hope to get on well with each other. But how can we get on well with our roommates? Different people have different opinions. Personally, I think the following tips may be good for us to establish a harmonious relationship with our roommates.
Firstly, we should live as a family, like brothers or sisters. If one is in trouble, the others should try their best to offer help and we can share happiness and sadness together. Secondly, every one has his or her duty to clean the room. Being in the same dormitory, we should have a sense of honor and keep our living place quiet and clean. It is beneficial for all of us. Thirdly, we should keep communication with each other and be tolerant to different viewpoints. As is known, to respect others is just to respect yourself. I think following these rules will help to form. a good relationship with our roommates.
If we can’t handle the relationship well with our roommates, it will make our college life full of unhappiness and consequently have a negative effect on our study. How to handle the relationship is the first thing we have to learn as college students. I sincerely hope that everyone does well with their classmates, especially with their roommates, and has a wonderful college life.

18. How to Handle the Relationship between Classmates

A good relationship between classmates is of vital importance for students. To me, school is just like a small society. If we handle the relationship in this small society very well, we can deal with all kinds of complex relationship after we graduate. But how can we handle the relationship between classmates? Here are my suggestions:
First of all, we should learn to communicate. The communication between different people is badly needed. It is of great importance for everyone to communicate with each other. Second, we should learn to concern ourselves about others. As is known to all, sow nothing, reap nothing. A friend in need is a friend indeed. We should learn to care for our classmates so that we will receive as much as we give. Third, we should learn to forgive. As gold can’t be pure, man can’t be perfect either. If we can forgive everything with generosity, our classmates will appreciate us and be willing to make good friends with us. Finally, we should learn to make ourselves perfect. Pay more attention to our words and actions.
With these suggestions, I am sure we can handle the relationship with our classmates well.

19. The Most Ideal Relationship between Students and Teachers

It is common in a Chinese classroom that only several people command the conversation with the teacher while the rest of the class remain silent unless they are asked. It seems as if there are barriers between students and teachers which keep the majority of students from interacting with their teachers.
However, in my view, keeping our insight or questions to ourselves is not desirable. The ideal relationship between students and teachers should be like this: when it comes to etiquette, they are our instructors; when it’s time for us to discuss, we should pour out our ideas, and at that time teachers become our friends to whom we can open our hearts without reservation.
A good relationship with teachers is one of the decisive factors in our college achievements. Once we have a good impression of our teachers, our interest of the subjects will be sparked.
Apart from those mentioned above, the ideal relationship between students and teachers should be such that we can share happiness and sorrow together. All relationships get deepened in the process of sharing. Only in this way can we understand each other better. So if we come across a queasy thing that chokes our heart all the time, we should not hesitate to share it with our teachers. I think the teachers will be glad to help us out.
All our teachers are admirable and respectable. I hope all of us will concentrate on our classes and establish a good relationship with them instead of skipping classes and losing ourselves in the Internet.

20. About College Students Living Off Campus

Nowadays, more and more students prefer to live off campus. It is true that living off campus can provide more freedom and save them the inconvenience and disturbance caused by other students. But I don’t think this is a good phenomenon.
I think we, college students, should learn everything besides books. We should learn how to face competitions and conflicts, how to understand life philosophy and how to distinguish right from wrong. We should know our goals and dreams. The campus especially the dormitory becomes a good place for us to exchange our opinions and communicate with each other. It is also a good place for us to study together, discuss together and even grow together. It is through living with other classmates that we understand what tolerance means and learn how to get on well with each other. I should say dormitory is our second home where we can get help, friendship and security.
So the students living off campus can only learn how to deal with themselves but lose the chance to learn how to deal with others.

21. Should College Students Bring Their Own Computers to School

With the development of science and technology, computers have already become more and more popular all around the world. And they are getting cheaper and cheaper. Universities or colleges have installed them in large numbers and many families can afford one. They are usually available for students. Then, should college students bring their own computers to school?
College life is much different from that of high school. In college, as classes go faster than in high school, students in college may not catch the idea of their teachers and self-study becomes more and more important. For this reason, computer is a good tool to help their learning. It can solve the most complex mathematic problems. And the widely-used searching engines like Google and Baidu can provide a lot of resources needed in their study and the online lectures can also help to meet what they want. Computers are able to store large amounts of information, which can be accessible at any time. And computers can be used for entertainment as well. From PC games to online chat, computers have the capacity to offer entertainment in various ways. It is an effective method to relax themselves and balance their life and study.
However, every coin has two sides. Computer can also be harmful. Now computer games have been popular with college students. Some even spend most of the day on computers for entertainment instead of study. They are so addicted to computers that they fall behind in their studies. What’s more, some unhealthy websites may also have negative effects on them. Therefore, if computers are used in a wrong way, it will do them more harm than good.
Therefore, in my opinion, whether a college student can bring his computer to college or not depends mainly on the student’s attitude and the way he uses it.

22. The Main Sources of My Knowledge Learning

With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more information sources are available in our daily life. As to us students, there is no doubt that class is the main source of learning. By interacting with teachers, we not only acquire a lot of knowledge and skills, but also follow their unique personalities.
But in the modern world, we have more sources of learning. We can turn to the Internet for any information we need, which offers us wider horizons of knowledge. With its help, our study becomes more efficient and convenient.
What’s more, studying means more than learning knowledge from textbooks. The whole society is an even bigger class for us. We learn more by stepping out of the campus and coming into contact with the society. Joining in various social practices makes us more experienced and mature, which enables us to adapt well to the society. We can learn how to solve problems and cooperate with others in the practice outside class.
Compared to those with the traditional style. of learning, we are the luckiest generation with so many choices. By taking advantage of these kinds of learning sources, we can develop ourselves well to contribute to the society.

23. Advantages and Disadvantages of Multi-media Used in Classroom Teaching

Nowadays, with the rapid development of Internet technology, multi-media is getting used in classroom teaching by more and more teachers.
The use of multi-media has a positive effect on students’ study. To begin with, it saves teaching time and makes new knowledge easier to memorize. Besides, students’ study interest is motivated owing to the varieties of teaching contents. And it helps to make full use of teaching resources, reducing its costs, especially in distance education. Furthermore, profound and abstract knowledge becomes easier to understand because vivid pictures, cartoons and videos are put to use in the class.
But there are some disadvantages as well. Too much information in multi-media class will become a heavy burden for most students to digest, especially for those unmotivated ones. Moreover, when we depend more and more on multi-media teaching, the interaction between teachers and students will get weakened.
In my opinion, multi-media teaching is a trend. People will be accustomed to it. It will be more popular in the near future. We should take effective measures to make it perfect.

24. My View on Cheating in Examinations

Now there are more and more examinations. Not only the students in school but also the adults on workplace should take examinations. Consequently, the number of people who cheat in examinations is rising.
Why do so many people cheat in examinations?
In China, it seems that one who wants to display his or her ability has to sit for an examination. And anyone who wants to receive others’ recognition should also get excellent marks. This is one of the reasons why so many people cheat in examinations. The second reason is that some people are so lazy that they can’t pass examinations. They don’t listen to what teacher is saying in the class or do their homework. They even don’t review before examinations. But they want to pass all the examinations as others do. They have no choice but to cheat in the examinations. The third reason is that those insecure people lack confidence. They study hard but they don’t trust themselves. They cheat in examinations in order to get better marks.
What should we do to stop cheating in examinations?
On one hand, we should study hard and have more confidence in ourselves. We should prepare ourselves well for examinations. We ought to have a positive attitude to our study. On the other hand, the government should also consider improving or changing the ways of evaluating people’s ability. Apart from examinations, some other ways should be developed to assess one’s ability.

25. My View on the Fashion of Western Festivals

As we all know, many western festivals, such as Christmas and April Fools’ Day, are very popular with Chinese, especially the young.
The fashion of the western festivals has two opposite effects on us. On the one hand, it’s good for us. First, we can learn some western cultures from western festivals. Second, it can enrich our life and make our life more colorful. Third, people tend to buy gifts for their friends, which will stimulate consumption, and as a result promote the development of our economy.
But on the other hand, paying too much attention to western festivals is not a good thing. It may obscure our traditional festivals, making many young people care little about our traditional culture.
China is a country with a long history. The traditional festivals are the symbols of rich Chinese culture. So in my view, when we pursue western festivals, we should never abandon our traditional festivals.
                           26. On Evaluation by Students
Nowadays, a growing number of universities have launched the "student evaluation project", in which students are invited to evaluate the performance of their teachers. As a part of education reform. program, student evaluation is expected to be an effective means to help to improve the teaching quality.
Different students may have different standards by which to judge their teachers. As a recent survey has revealed, some students focus on the teacher's academic competence and classroom activities; some pay attention to the teacher's personality and sense of humor, while others care much more about the teacher's personal hobbies. Sometimes even appearance may be taken into account as well for ridiculous reasons.
As a whole, student evaluation project takes a bold step in the university education reform. process, which encourages students to get more actively involved in the classroom activities and as a result creates an interactive academic atmosphere. Nevertheless, many other problems may arise correspondingly. For instance, some students may be too critical about a certain professor just because the professor is not funny or he is too strict, which might have a negative impact on the impartiality of evaluation itself, misleading the reform. orientation. On the other hand, for the teachers, in order to get higher students’ evaluation, they care more about the taste of students than the regular teaching process. All these have negative effects on both teaching and learning.
To promote college education, the school authorities grant students the right to evaluate their teachers’ classroom teaching. To the students, we should value this opportunity, make full use of it, and at the same time take our responsibility to evaluate every teacher’s work without any influence of personal interest.

27. Developing College Students' Creative Thinking Ability
As we all know, the ability to think creatively plays a crucial role in both individual and social development. However, when we casually pick up a newspaper, or turn on the TV, all kinds of criticism of college students' lack of innovational ideas come flooding to our eyes and ears. It is said that college students are good at learning knowledge from textbooks, but weak in generating their own ideas to solve the problems. What causes this phenomenon? I think the answer lies in the way that our education operates.
For one thing, the test-oriented education model is the primary cause. In this model, our college students are accustomed to solving the problems of which the standard answer is known, but they are hardly taught to try their own ideas. The ultimate goal of this education is to gain good test results, instead of developing one's creative way of thinking.
For another, schools and society have not provided enough opportunities for common students to try their own ideas. When a student has a new idea one day, he will find it is not so easy to try it out. Some wonderful ideas are regretably laid wasted.
The educational authorities should attach greater importance to developing the students' creative thinking ability. We might start by raising the students' awareness of the issue, and then take effective measures to adjust the goal of college education, to provide more opportunities, and set up a reward system to encourage creative thinking on the part of students.
28. Building the Civilized Campus
People generally believe that college students, chosen by the extremely competitive national entrance examinations, should also excel in morals and behaviors. The behavior. of some students, however, falls short of people's expectation. Desk culture, spitting in public, skipping classes, bike stealing, not giving up their seats to the old and young on buses, not flushing after using toilets are all common behaviors of university students.
It is hard to imagine that these things happen on campus. Many educators blame it on the lack of moral lessons in kindergartens or primary schools. Partly owing to the fierce competition in society, partly because of high expectations from parents, children's early education tends to be focused on the learning of knowledge and facts. As a result, greater emphasis is laid on test scores. And the education of basic moral values is sorrowfully neglected. Many children grow up developing the wrong mindset that as long as they get high marks in exams, they will be treated with respect and approval. There's nothing seriously wrong with being selfish and indifferent, and violating public rules and regulations is just a minor, negligible error.
Others believe that students' behavior. problem results from some bad peers’ influence. Take desk cultures for example. After one student wrote something on the desk, another read it and thought it's fun and then wrote more as comments. They seem to take it as a cool way of self-expression.
To do away with these bad habits on campus, it is worthwhile to introduce regular campus civilization programs that may help raise the students' awareness of the codes of social behavior. and teach them to behave more politely.
