Unbearable (8)

During the day, she tried (though with only partial success) to believe what Tomas told her and to be as cheerful as she had been before. But her jealousy thus tamed by day burst forth all the more savagely in her dreams, each of which ended in a wail he could silence only by waking her.   
一 整 天 ,她 试 着 去 相 信 (虽 然 仅 仅 有 一 点 相 信 )托 马 斯 所 说 的 , 并 试 图 像 以 前 那 样 高 兴 .然 而 ,白 天 才 才 渐 渐 平 息 的 妒 火 在 梦 中 又 炽 热 起 来,每 次 都 以 哭 泣 告 终, 托 马 斯 默 默 地 弄 醒 她 .   

Her dreams recurred like themes and variations or television series. For example, she repeatedly dreamed of cats jumping at her face and digging their claws into her skin. We need not look far for an interpretation: in czech slang the word "cat" means a pretty woman. Tereza saw herself threatened by women, all women. All women were potential mistresses for Tomas, and she feared them all.
她 的 噩 梦 像 有 主 题 和 情 景 的 电 视 连 续 剧 一 样 会 不 断 再 现 和 延 续 . 比 如 , 她 曾 无 数 次 的 梦 到 猫 扑 向 她 的 脸 ,爪 子 抓 进 她 的 面 颊 . 我 们 根 本 就 不 用 对 这 个 梦 作 深 层 的 解 析 : 在 捷 克 的 方 言 里 , 猫 的 意 思 就 是 美 女 . 特 蕊 莎 意 识 到 她 的 生 活 受 到 威 胁 , 受 到 所 有 女 人 的 威 胁 ! 每 一 位 女 人 都 可 能 会 是 托 马 斯 的 情 侣 , 她 惧 怕 所 有 的 女 人 . 
 
In another cycle she was being sent to her death. Once, when he woke her up as she screamed in terror in the dead of night, she told him about it. " I was at a large indoor swimming pool. There were about twenty of us. All women. We were naked and had to march around the pool. There was a basket hanging from the ceiling and a man standing in the basket. The man wore a broad-brimmed hat shading his face, but I could see it was you. You kept giving us orders. Shouting at us. We had to sing as we marched, sing and do kneebends. If one of us did a bad kneebend, you would shoot her with a pistol and she would fall dead into the pool. Which made everybody laugh and sing even louder. You never took your eyes off us, and the minute we did something wrong, you would shoot. The pool was full of corpses floating just below the surface. And I knew I lacked the strength to do the next kneebend and you were going to shoot me!"
在 第 二 个 梦 魇 里 , 她 几 乎 被 处 死 . 一 次 , 当 他 叫 醒 她 时 , 她 正 在 死 寂 一 样 的 黑 夜 中 惊 叫 , 她 讲 述 了 梦 魇. "在 一 个 很 大 的 室 内 游 泳 馆 内, 有 大 约 20 个 女 人 , 我 们 都 赤 身 裸 体 地 以 整 齐 的 步 伐 围 绕 着 池 子 行 走. 在 棚 顶 悬 挂 着 一 个 篮 筐 , 一 个 戴 着 宽 边 帽 子 并 遮 住 脸 部 的 男 子 站 在 里 面, 我 还 是 能 认 出 是 你. 你 不 停 地 喊 叫 着 对 我 们 下 命 令 .我 们 要 边 唱 歌 边 迈 着 整 齐 的 步 伐 行 走 , 甚 至 边 唱 歌 边 做 屈 膝 运 动 . 如 果 某 人 屈 膝 运 动 做 的 不 好 , 你 就 会 给 她 一 枪 ,把 她 打 入 泳 池 中 . 之 后 ,每 个 人 都 会 大 笑 并 更 大 声 地 唱 歌 . 你 目 不 转 睛 地 盯 着 我 们 ,一 旦 我 们 做 错 了 , 你 就 开 枪 . 泳 池 的 水 面 下 漂 浮 着 许 多 尸 体 . 我 知 道 我 再 也 没 有 能 力 去 做 下 一 个 屈 膝 动 作 了 , 你 马 上 就 会 向 我 开 枪 了 .  

In the third cycle she was dead. Lying in a hearse as big as a furniture van, she was surrounded by dead women. There are so many of them that the back door would not close and several legs dangled out. " But I'm not dead!" Tereza cried. " I can still feel!" "So can we," the corpses laughed. They laughed the same laugh as the living women who used to tell her cheerfully it was perfectly normal that one day she would have bad teeth, faulty ovaries, and wrinkles, because they all had bad teeth, faulty ovaries, and wrinkles. Laughing the same alugh, they told her that she was dead and it was perfectly all right!  
在 第 三 个 梦 魇 中 ,她 已 经 死 了 . 躺 在 一 个 像 面 包 车 一 样 大 的 类 似 家 俱 一 样 的 灵 车 上, 她 的 四 周 都 是 女 死 尸. 死 尸 多 的 连 后 门 的 关 不 上 了 , 甚 至 几 条 腿 还 在 外 面 悬 着. " 然 而 , 我 还 没 死 !' 特 蕊 莎 哭 喊 着 , " 我 还 有 感 觉 !" "我 们 也 一 样 " 死 尸 们 都 大 笑 起 来 . 那 笑 声 是 同 活 着 的 女 人 的 笑 声 是 一 样 的 .那 些 活 着 的 女 人 曾 高 兴 地 对 她 讲 , 有 那 么 一 天 , 她 也 会 牙 掉 了 ,有 卵 巢 炎 , 并 且 满 脸 皱 纹 . 每 个 人 都 会 这 样 ,那 是 太 正 常 不 过 了 . 在 同 样 的 笑 声 中 ,她 们 又 跟 她 讲 ,既 使 死 亡 ,也 是 很 正 常 的 事 情 .

Suddenly she felt a need to urinate. " You see," she cried. " I need to pee. That's proof positive I 'm not dead! " But they only laughed again. " Needing to pee is perfectly normal!" they said. " You 'll go on feeling that kind of thing for a long time yet. Like a person who has an arm cut off and keeps feeling it's there. We may not have a drop of pee left in us, but we keep needing to pee." Tereza huddled against Tomas in bed. " And the way they talked to me! Like old friends, people who 'd known me forever. I was appalled at the thouht of having to stay with them forever."  
突 然 ,她 想 尿 尿 , " 你 们 看 " 她 又 哭 喊 着 ," 我 要 尿 尿 . 这 足 以 证 明 我 还 活 着 !" 但 她 们 又 用 大 笑 来 回 答 她 . " 想 尿 尿 是 很 正 常 的 !" 她 们 说 . " 你 会 在 很 长 一 段 时 间 内 都 有 这 种 感 觉 ,就 像 一 个 胳 膊 被 切 掉 的 人 , 还 是 会 觉 得 她 有 胳 膊. 我 们 或 许 尿 不 出 一 滴 来 ,但 我 们 还 是 会 想 尿 尿 ." 特 蕊 莎 在 床 上 缩 成 一 团 紧 紧 地 偎 依 在 托 马 斯 的 身 上 . " 她 们 与 我 谈 话 的 情 形 ,就 像 我 们 是 一 辈 子 也 没 分 开 过 的 好 朋 友 一 样 , 一 想 到 一 辈 子 都 要 与 她 们 呆 在 一 起, 我 就 毛 骨 悚 然 ."
